Book Review
A New 2010 Paddling Book by Our Own PACK Member, Kathy Kenley:
Quiet Water New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. AMC Publishing.
Ok, so I'm a little biased in writing this book review given that Kathy is not only my long time K2 partner but my best friend too, but really, even if I didn't know her I'd still give this book 10 thumbs up.
There are 80 trips in this book, including 28 sites in eastern Pennsylvania. All of them are "quiet water," meaning ponds, lakes, and easy rivers. The area covers everything east in Pennsylvania beginning from Long Pine Run Reservoir, Lake Holman in Little Buffalo State Park, Faylor Lake and C. F. Walker Lake, and Lake Jean in Ricketts Glen State Park.
Each section includes addresses, phone numbers, and GPS coordinates, maps, acreage, conditions, development and special features, camping information, and directions, as well as a complete description of what you'll see there. You can tell this book is written by someone who not only paddles, but who has paddled each of these sites.
There are photos of most of the sites, with real paddlers such as yours truly and several other PACK members paddling. A year in the works, Kathy paddled and sorted through hundreds of sites to choose the best calm water paddling in eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
So the next time you can't think of any place "good" to paddle, pick up Kathy's book and be on your way.
