West Branch of Susquehanna River

Edit

April 9-11, 2010: West Branch Susquehanna - Shawville to Keating

RAIN OR SHINE! All are welcome to camp overnight at my place on Thursday or can find "local" accommodations in Westport or Renovo.

Come camp at my place on Thursday and join a few of us on an afternoon Kettle Creek or Sinnemahoning Creek paddle.

Breakfast is on us Friday morning prior to the trip!!! Please indicate in your confirmation email that you are coming to breakfast and arrive by 7:30 if you wish to eat with us.

Be prepared to load gear on the shuttle vans and trailer at my house in Keating, PA (7 Miller Lane, Westport, PA 17778) at 8:30am on April 9th.

Rock, River and Trail in Lock Haven is running our shuttle again this year at a cost of $25.00 per person. This enables us to have our vehicles at the bottom upon arrival.

Shuttle cost of $25.00 per person payable upon arrival. Expect to assist in loading and unloading of boats and equipment on and off the trailer and vans.

All folks that are considering this trip need to understand that this is a semi-wild trip and that HELP IS NOT EASILY AVAILABLE and BAILING OUT IS NOT REALLY AN OPTION (especially after we pass Karthaus). If you want to quit - it's still a long walk out.

If you have any problems - call (570) 923-2591 on the day of the trip if you are having difficulties finding the house or running late. We are probably going to be on the road by 9:30, so be sure .

Trip Details

There are a few Class I+ rapids over the entire trip. We will scope where appropriate. This trip essentially starts at Shawville and we will paddle to a primitive campsite below Deer Creek. Second day paddle down through Moshannon Falls to primitive camp near Birch Island. Third day is a short paddle down to Keating and return home.

The WB Susquehanna is a rocky river and depending on water levels it can be bumpy so plastic is in!!
